Building a blog can be an exciting venture. The opportunity to share your passion while making money from the site is more than possible as I've mentioned before here. Maintaining visitors and bringing people back is usually the biggest struggle most new bloggers deal with. Getting people to come back to read future blog posts and articles can require serious work unless you know how to lead them back to your site. The best way to do that is through list building and continuously educating your readers.
What Is An Email List?
List building involves connecting with your readers by asking for their emails and names so you can email them in the future in return for a freebie. You do this with a subscription form on your site. With the help of an autoresponder, you can set up a "welcome" email for every new person who types in their email. You can create a sequence of five emails straight that are sent out every few days for when they sign up, and then they'll receive updates which you can send to them as an email blast that are sent out to everybody no matter when they signed up to the list. It's an awesome tool and you need one! I'll explain more about it in a minute.. keep reading.
You Will Benefits From Having A List
First of all, it's the best way to build relationships with your readers. An email newsletter that you send out every few days can be a way to connect to them, and you can even use these people for your market research. If you run out of ideas, ask your readers with an email blast about things they would want for you to talk about. It couldn't get any easier than this, and you'll get tons of different ideas to help you come up with more content.
With a single push of a button, you can send out an email to your readers about your latest article or blog post. You can bring visitors back right away whenever you need to. Building your list has never been so easy, especially with all the tools available online.
It's your personal ATM!
Some marketers and bloggers out there have referred to their email list as their personal ATM. Imagine this, when you have a large list, imagine you need to go on an exotic vacation. All you do is send out an email with an affiliate offer to your email list and the money come rolling in within a couple of days. Your vacation is funded!
How To Get People To Sign-Up?
The hardest part is getting people to give you their email and trusting you. This can be done with the help of providing an incentive to build more trust. You can use free eBooks, giving away some valuable information. It doesn't need to be a 100-page novel, it could just be a short PDF file that you create on your own, that's filled with helpful information. To come up with the best info for your FREE eBook, write down a list of the top three biggest problems people in your niche deal with, and then provide them some of the answers in your free eBook.
Aside from a free PDF file, you can consider giving them other free incentives like chances to win prizes, receive a paid product for free, videos only available to members, and other stuff you could give away.
Creativity plays a huge role with convincing people to sign up to your list. Brainstorm about this, it is worth your time!
Here Is How To Build Your List From Scratch
To get started, you need to use an autoresponder, and you need an incentive.
Aweber and GetResponse are two of the best list building sites on the web. Both offer free trials and other discounted opportunities to try their services out, but they both provide the right tools to create enticing emails and make it easy for you to build your list. Using their services requires a small monthly fee, but it is worth the investment.
There are also other autoresponder services that people use out there and I've tried them all over the years, but I highly recommend Aweber and GetResponse. I found them to be the best options for my self and have used them for years and love both of them.
These two autoresponder services do offer an affiliate commission to me for referring you to them, but keep in mind that my main goal here is to recommend the best tool for the job, not just to get a commission from it. I want you to succeed, what good is it to me if you get something I recommended and hate it?
You Can Use Other People's eBooks For This Too!
If you don't want to create the ebook yourself, you can always use websites like eBookJunkie, Bugabong, IDPLR, and other websites online that give you full rights to share their eBooks either for free or for a small price.
You can also hire someone to do the work for you, so you have a unique freebie and not a copy that others are giving away too. Places like upWork.com (formerly oDesk and eLance) or Fiverr.com make it easy to find someone to help you with it.
Building a list is not an overnight process, but it is definitely worth the time because of the trust you can build with your readers. Stay consistent, keep blogging and build your list!
