How Do Bloggers Make Money?

Blogging is a powerful marketing weapon - between the readers and the mailing list. Aside from the regular income you get form a blog, you can also use it to squeeze large amounts of money out of it on demand. There are several money-making avenues that a blogger can take... many times more than one at a time. I'll talk about these individually in this post but I will expand more into each one in my coming up posts. The 3 blog monetization options I would like to cover are Affiliate Marketing, Product Creation, and AdSense and Other Ads.

How Blogging Works

Before we get into that though, you need to understand how this process works. When you create quality content and publish it on your blog, more and more people will come visit your blog. As they read your content, they will click links and ads that interest them, and this is how you get paid. Just like magazines and newspapers, they provide content that people want to read, and these publications are funded by the ads that are published next to the content. Think of blogging as publishing a magazine.

To attract more readers and get them to share your stuff, the content that gets published on the blog needs to be high quality and useful information in most cases, but browsing around the web, you will find 2 types of content that becomes popular;

a) Very useful content, like how-to articles and top 10 lists
b) Entertainment posts that could be anything from funny stories to stupid stuff

So what you would take away from this is, either you teach them something or you entertain them. The teaching stuff should be high quality useful stuff, but the entertaining can be anything. You can write about your day and a crazy person you had to deal with. If you put yourself into it and really be sincere, people will come back on regular basis to see what you encountered today.

Once you do that and generate a nice following, then it'll be the time to dive into the monetization of the blog. Here are the options you would have.

Making Money Blogging From Affiliate Marketing

The affiliate marketing model works better for blogs that are not in the entertaining category and more in the teaching one. When you teach people to do something, you automatically become an authority in the field. This puts you in a nice situation where you can recommend products and services to your readers. Normally these products would be related to your category in some way. The owners of these products will pay you a nice commission for any sales that result from your recommendations. These commissions can be anywhere from 5% all the way up to 75% on digital products. There is a lot of money that is to be made using this method of monetizing.

Making Money Blogging From Your Own Product Creation

When you create your own product, you get to keep 100% of the sales and you get to build your own brand. Most bloggers that choose this model will create their own digital products, things like reports, eBooks, memberships, audios and videos. These things have a very low overhead, so after the initial cost of creation of the product, it can be resold over and over again. If someone is interested in reading your blog, they will most likely want to read more. This is when you create something even better, or collect the most popular stuff from your blog, edit it and add a bit more stuff to it, and turn it into an ebook. You can also record yourself reading all your popular content and sell them the audio. Make videos explaining everything you teach on your blog and stick them behind a login on your website and charge a monthly fee to let them access it. There are so many things that can be done, and we will get more into them later in my posts.

Making Money Blogging From AdSense And Other Ads

Here is an easy way to get paid without you having to deal with anything except write your blog. Google wants to pay you to put ads on your blog. All you have to do is write your blog regularly. AdSense is a division of Google that lets you stick code on your blog that will automatically display related ads to your readers. When they click on the ads, you get paid, that's it. The more people visit your site, the more clicks you will get, the more you get paid. There are also other places that will do the same, you can place ads on your blog and get paid for clicks, for sales, for 1000 views and all kinds of jazz like that. We'll get into this more later on.

Creating quality content is the key to any of these methods of making money with your blog, so focus on that first. Once you have that and the traffic is rolling in, then you can pop some ads on your site and reap the rewards.

Are you ready to start blogging? You have to, it's a no brainer. What is your passion, that you want to talk with other people like you about? What makes you want to wake up in the morning? That is it, that is what you should blog about.

Any Questions?

If you have any questions, please write them in the comments and I will do my best to answer as promptly as I can.
