How To Create “Popular” Blog Posts

When it comes to "popular" blog posts, I want every one of mine to be that, but the reality is, sometimes you just have to create articles that you know will not be super popular. You need them to fill in the information gap. Not everyone will need or want to read them, but those few that do need this info will be very grateful for it being there.

Aside from that, the goal is to create blog posts that have the best chance of becoming popular. I will tell you how in a minute.

My blog is about building a blog that makes money, so it is sort of a tutorial blog. For this reason, I can not really skip parts of information even if it is probably not going to be very popular. It is part of the process so I need to provide all the information to make my blog complete. Same with your blog, if you are teaching people to do something, make sure not to skip parts just because only a few will be able to use this information. Make your blog complete.

How To Create A Popular Blog Post

To create a blog posts that has the best potential of becoming popular, you need 2 ingredients.

Choosing A Blog Post Format

The first ingredient is the blog post format. The studies have been done by many a blogger and here is a list of the winning blog post types that readers love to read and share with their friends.

Top 10 Lists

The Top X Lists are very easy to read through and you get the best info very quickly from them. When people see a top 10 list, they already know what to expect from this article, this is why they click on it and read it more than another type.

How-To Articles (Tutorials)

People love to learn new stuff, so if they are in need of some info, and they see a how-to article or a tutorial about the topic they are looking for, it is right up their alley. Same thing, they already know what to expect from this article, this takes down a barrier for them and turns them into a reader.

Check Lists

A check list is almost the same as a tutorial, but it also provides a way for them to do something step-by-step as well as keep track of their progress to make sure they address each item.

Interviews with important people in the industry, who doesn't want to read those? People want to hear others in their field speak and share their experiences. This is also very important for your blog because when you interview an important figure in your industry, usually their followers and fans will end up visiting your blog because that person is on it. This opens up your blog to a new audience.

People searching for information about a product, love to see reviews, especially comparing reviews. The most successful review posts will compare about 3 related products and state the pros and cons of each. This narrows the choices down for the reader and compares the products side by side for them. Comparing more than 3 is going to be harder to keep the visitor interested unless you show a clear winner in an very nice visual way.

In the last several years, infographics became hugely popular. The reason is because people are data junkies, some just don't know it yet, until they see data in a graphical way. Even the most boring data condensed to visually pleasing graphical way, will be appealing and understandable to most.

Videos & Podcasts

Everyone loves watching videos and listening to podcasts, because it takes the "work" of reading away. They can just sit back and listed or watch the information directly uploaded into their brain.

Crafting the Title

The second ingredient is the TITLE, because it will attract your readers to your post. It needs to be catchy and interesting, as well as relevant to the actual post of course. Spend a few minutes on your titles and actually craft them, don't just throw down a title and go with it. Don;t forget to include the format of your article within the title so people know what to expect to see when they click on the title.

The titles that quickly tell the visitor what they are going to learn and how they are going to do it, will attract more readers. People don't like the unknown and they are less hesitant when they know what to expect.

Mix It Up

To make your blog interesting, don't just stick to one type of articles, try to utilize all the formats to keep your readers on their toes. This also will attract more visitors because there are characters out there that will passionately love or hate specific types of posts, so you can cater to everyone's taste.
